Quality soil is important for growing pumpkins. Plant after the danger of frost has passed.
Planting PumpkinsPumpkins, like other squashes and gourds, typically like to have a lot of space. Keep rows 8 feet apart and hills 4 to 8 feet apart in the rows. A compost pile can be used as a place for the pumpkin vines to grow, because they do very well with that kind of enriched environment. Watering should be slow and deep for pumpkins. Days to harvest: About 90 to 120 If you want to grow a gigantic pumpkin,
allow the first and maybe the second flower on the vine to become pollinated
and begin developing, and then cut or pinch off all the other flowers
so that there is only one or two pumpkins to a vine.
