Melon Growing Tips and Advice
Melons like a lot of space, a lot of heat and a lot of sun. They need about 3 to 4 months of warm weather, rich, fertile soil and plenty of water. You can plant the seeds in your compost pile when growing melons and you'll typically get good results. The compost pile provides both extra heat, and fertile soil. If you want particularly good flavor, stop watering about a week before you harvest the melons so they can develop better taste. But don't let the vines wilt completely.
Planting MelonsPlant melon seeds 1 inch deep, in 2 to 3 foot mounds spaced 4 to 6 feet apart. Thin seedlings so that you have two plants per hill. You'll typically get 2 to 3 melons per vine. Days to harvest: 75 to 120 days
