Anise Growing Tips and Advice

Anise seeds taste great on cakes and cookies and in salads. This herb needs consistent watering, though you mustn't overwater it. Plant in full sun and make sure the soil drains well.

Planting Anise

Anise, which doesn't transplant well, grows rapidly from seed planted in the early spring. Plant seeds 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep after the last frost, spacing seeds about a 1/2 inch apart in rows 15 inches apart. If planted in rows, thin to 6 to 8 inches apart. The green leaves can be cut whenever plants are large enough. Gather seeds about 1 month after flowers bloom and fade, but be sure to gather the seeds before they fall to the ground.

Days to Harvest: Any time.
Days to Germinate: 7-14.
